OVERLAY
Most Showplace door styles are offered in two overlays: Traditional and International+. A few door styles are offered in International+ only. Read on and learn more about what this means to you.
Traditional
Traditional overlay doors and headers are smaller, revealing more of the frame. Since they’re smaller and use less material, Traditional styles also cost less.
International
International+ overlay doors and headers are larger, covering more of the frame. The result is a sleeker, tighter look.

Full-access cabinetry is one of the many ways of designing and building cabinets. It is also sometimes called “frameless” or “European-style” cabinetry.
Overlay (sometimes called “reveal”) refers to the amount of cabinet face frame that is covered by the doors and drawer headers. In the end, the overlay decision is one of personal tastes and budgets.
Most Showplace door styles give you some choices for drawer headers. All styles have a standard header which is usually a slab header with the appropriate edge treatment for the door style. On many styles, you can also choose the slant/raised header or an upgrade five-piece drawer header.
Five-piece headers with raised panel door styles will utilize a flat center panel on shorter drawer openings, see examples or talk to your Showplace dealer for details. Applied-molding, beaded, and mitered door styles also have upgrade header options appropriate to each style. This ability provides you even more freedom with your design—and if you have any questions, we’re here to help.
Your chosen wood type will impact the available finishes. Select your favorite species to see which finishes are available. When applicable, rustic door and finish images do not reflect rustic characteristics.
The right finish will customize your look while protecting your cabinets from drying, cracking, deteriorating, and swelling. Choose the paint, standard or character stain, or glaze that suits your style.
These finishes are created by a multistep process that includes final topcoating with an oven-baked varnish for superior durability.
Add the impression of natural aging to your cabinetry creation with Showplace glazes. And unlike many other brands, we don’t charge extra for it!
Glaze is an extra step in the finish process. A pigment is applied, and hand-wiped partially away. With glazes, the pigment collects or “hangs up” to visually highlight areas of detail, while flat surfaces are wiped clean.
The unique Showplace Vintage offering takes antique character to the highest level. Special Vintage finish techniques include hand padding and dry brushing to create a distinctive impression of elegant aging.
Optional Vintage character elements are achieved through chain distressing with a proprietary Showplace technique, worm holing and worm tracking, chisel and rasp distressing, and oversanding.
This beautiful handcrafted finish is offered in three variations, some without distressing, on a wide selection of woods in both stains and paints.
All Showplace door styles offer options to accept glass panes. You can source your own glass panes for on-site installation, or select clear or decorative glass that arrives already installed in your cabinetry.
